At the beginning of the period, the UK had the highest number of tourists, with around 30 million visitors in 2009. This figure then increased steadily until it reached its peak of almost 40 million in 2015. After this, the number of tourists began to decrease, and by 2018 it had dropped to just over 35 million.

France had the second highest number of tourists over the period, with around 25 million visitors in 2009. This number then increased steadily until it reached its peak of almost 30 million in 2017. After this, the figure dropped to just under 28 million in 2018.
