The IELTS Listening test is divided into four sections, each with 10 questions. Section 1 is a conversation between two people set in an everyday social context. Section 2 is a monologue set in an everyday social context, e.g. a speech about local facilities. Section 3 is a conversation between up to four people set in an educational or training context. Section 4 is a lecture or talk in an academic context.
The test is 30 minutes long and you will have an extra 10 minutes to transfer your answers to the answer sheet.
You will hear each section twice. In sections 1, 2 and 3, you will hear the questions before you hear the recording, and you will have time to look at the questions. In section 4, you will hear the questions after you have heard the recording, and you will have time to look at the questions as you listen.
At the end of the test, you will have two minutes to check your answers.
